F.L. from Minnesota writes; my question concerns rule 13C. “Dog(s) will be minused” When a dog that is declared treed leaves the tree. If he continues to trail, only tree points are minus. He may receive tree points if he goes back on tree before five (5) minutes have expired. In this case when a dog is declared treed, then leaves, then returns, how many points would he tree back in for?
Dear F.L. The number of points he may tree back in for depends upon how many dogs have been declared treed and how much time has elapsed since the first dog was declared treed. Here are a couple of possibilities.
#1 Dogs A, B, C and D have been declared treed in that order. As cast approaches, dog C is heard trailing and minused before returning to the tree. In this case dog C cannot be re-treed on the same tree because the tree was considered closed or dead when all dogs were declared treed.
#2 Dogs A, B, and C have been declared treed in that order, three minutes has expired and dog D continues on trail. As cast waits, dog C is heard trailing and minused before returning to the same tree. In this case dog C may be re-treed for 25 points.
